This is another post for steel making professionals in the series of typical bottlenecks in decarbonization moving to hybrid steel making!
If the scrap bucket, especially the first, is charged too late to the EAF you lose production!
However, the bucket was NOT delivered late to the melt shop!
It was ready, waiting to be picked up and charged. -
The cranes were busy doing other things! -
Well, there are many other tasks a crane must do to keep the plant running. -
- 1x per day transport sample and temperature probes to restock
- 1x per day bring emergency Aluminum to the EAF tapping
- 2x per day deliver tap-hole filling mass and other refractories to the EAFs
- 1x per day move a palette with electrode pieces to the preparation table
- 3x per day pull electrode from EAF and transport it to nippling stand
- 3x per day take the ready electrode from the standby rack and put it in the EAF
- 3x per day lift electrode pieces from the preparation table and join electrodes
- 3x per day move extended electrode to standby rack
- 1x per day account for an unplanned transport
And for EVERY HEAT but depending on plant layout:
- Move the full bucket from the scrap carrier to a waiting position
- Transport the full hot metal ladle from a transfer car to the launder
- Move the empty hot metal ladle to a parking position
- Place the hot metal ladle from the parking position on the transfer car
You have not considered those in your initial concept?
With cranes work utilization you should NEVER work with averages!
Actually not. I will show you next time... (to be continued)
